Friday 14 November 2025 Reception PSHE - I'm Special, You're Special In our PSHE lesson this week, we have thought about what we look like. We carefully felt our own faces, gently paying attention to particular features. We examined our faces closely in a mirror, thinking about the shapes we could see and how different features of our faces looked. We talked about how we are all different to each other and no two of our faces look the same and that it is important that we respect ourselves and others. In groups, we tried to assemble cut-up photos of ourselves from a jumble of eyes, noses and mouths which made us really have to look carefully!

Monday 20 October 2025 Reception Art Week - Andy Goldsworthy This week we looked at the work of Andy Goldsworthy and learned about how he uses natural materials to create pictures and sculptures. We talked about Autumn and went on an Autumn walk to collect natural materials of our own such as leaves, pebbles and pine cones. We then used our found objects to create natural portraits. We also learned all about hedgehogs and used natural materials – clay and sticks – to make our own little hedgehogs. It was great fun and we enjoyed using the clay and collecting our twigs! This week we have also enjoyed a range of Autumn crafts: silhouette leaf pictures, making our own Leaf Man, and leaf shaped suncatchers!

Tuesday 30 September 2025 Reception - Sunflowers and Harvest This week we have been learning about harvest. We have learned some harvest songs such as ‘Big Red Combine Harvester’ and have looked at how farmers gather crops in the Autumn to make sure we have plenty of food in the winter months. We have looked at some of the plants that we can grow and harvest for food in this country, including corn, wheat and sunflowers. We were lucky enough to have a huge sunflower head to explore and harvest the seeds from using tweezers and our fingers! We will keep the seeds safe over winter and plant them in Spring. We have also enjoyed painting beautiful sunflowers which can be seen displayed in our classroom.
