Thursday 12 February 2026 Year 3 - Rocks Year 3 have been learning about rocks! As part of this, they went on a rock hunt around the school, and found a variety of exciting specimens of various shapes, sizes, textures and hues. As they have started to discuss the 3 main types of rock (metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary as I'm sure we're all aware), the children could barely contain their excitement as we began to talk about which of these types our specimens could be. During their forthcoming quarry trip, the children will view experiments to determine which type of rock a specimen is, and they are looking forward to carrying out these tests on their own rock samples. Rock on!

Wednesday 15 October 2025 Year 3 RE - Church Visit Year 3 really enjoyed their visit to St. John’s Church in Yeovil. We were welcomed by Rev. Graham who explained the different areas of the church before we took part in a treasure hunt. We found five coins spelling the word ‘JESUS’. Rev. Graham shared why Jesus is so important to Christians. We identified the altar, pulpit, pews, font, stained glass windows, organ and ladies chapel. We had the opportunity to ask Rev. Graham lots of interesting questions about Christianity and also got to meet a very friendly dog called Poppy!

Tuesday 7 October 2025 Year 3 Bugman Visit We had a wonderful visit by the ‘Bugman’ as part of our Science topic on skeletons and animals. He showed us animals with the three main types of skeleton: exoskeleton, endoskeleton and hydrostatic. He taught us the different advantages of these, and why animals had adapted to use them. We were allowed to handle a variety of different not-so-minibeasts, including giant millipedes and land-snails, stick insects and even a tarantula!

Wednesday 10 September 2025 Year 3 History - Mummification As part of our Ancient Egypt topic, we have been looking at Gods, the afterlife and mummification. We learned the process of mummification, before acting it out on our class pharaohs. We discussed each step and its importance to the Egyptians whilst we worked. We finished by wrapping our class mummies in linen – good luck in the afterlife!
