Year 4 Geography - Volcanic Eruption

This week in Year 4, we have been learning all about volcanoes and the different types of eruptions. We explored explosive eruptions, effusive eruptions, Strombolian eruptions, Vulcanian eruptions, and Plinian eruptions. We discussed what makes each one different. To bring our learning to life, we worked together as a year group to create our own eruptions using Coca-Cola and Mentos. We watched the “volcanoes” explode and carefully observed what happened.  Afterwards, we discussed which types of real volcanic eruptions our experiments were most similar to and explained why, using what we had learned. It was an exciting and memorable lesson that helped deepen our understanding of volcanoes.
