International Day - Ireland
This year, our International Day focused on Ireland. Children in all year groups spent the day doing a range of activities to help learn about the geography and culture of Ireland. The children enjoyed moving around the school to work with different teachers on a range of exciting activities!
Reception and Year 1 worked together to complete an Irish themed treasure hunt, completed Irish map puzzles and designed and coloured shamrocks. Later in the day, they listened to Irish stories and learnt an Irish dance.
Year 2 and 3 also learnt some Irish dances and then enjoyed hearing and acting out Irish folktales such as Fionn and the Salmon of Knowledge.
Year 4 and 5 enjoyed using DigiMaps to plot key Irish locations and then creating watercolour postcards of famous Irish landmarks. Later on, they learnt about the role of St Patrick in Irish history and then created their own designs in the style of the ‘Book of Kells’.
Year 6 completed some Ireland-themed word problems in maths and spent the afternoon learning how to draw Celtic knots. They also enjoyed singing some of the Irish songs that they had been learning in singing assembly.
