Our Vision

Music is all around us. It is the soundtrack to our lives. Music connects us through people and places in our ever-changing world. It is creative, collaborative, celebratory and challenging. In our school, music can bring communities together through the shared endeavour of whole-school singing, ensemble playing, experimenting with the creative process and, through the love of listening to friends and fellow pupils, performing. The sheer joy of music making can feed the soul of a school community, enriching each student while strengthening the shared bonds of support and trust which make a great school.

At Huish Primary School, we incorporate singing, listening, learning to play a musical instrument, composing and performing into our music lessons. It is a subject that everyone can get enjoyment from.

What makes us Musicians

  • Performing, listening and evaluating music from a range of historical periods, genres and traditions.
  • Understanding how music is formed using pitch, dynamics, tempo, texture and structure. We can understand how these affect the sound we hear and note these and other musical notations on written music.
  • Using our voices to express a wide range of emotions to allow us to tell a story. We can do this on our own or in a group.
  • Learning to play different instruments and creating and composing our own music for ourselves and others to enjoy.
